He's still wavering between disbelief and desperation following his escape. Obviously these fools didn't know they had chained the devil. Bon Dieu, heaven help them all if they try to take him back.
Right now he's struggling to make it back to New Orleans with only his laissez faire attitude and a lot of southern charm to get him through the day, but beneath that something is just waiting to explode.
